Project 1: Self-Portrait

Visual Research

Before starting my self-portrait, I did some visual research. I searched up some self-portraits on Pinterest.

Idea Exploration

I did some self-exploration before coming up with an idea for my self-portrait.

After completing my self-exploration, I proceeded with a rough sketch for my self-portrait. I had an idea of putting things I like in my self-portrait as it represents me.

Self-Portrait Progress

Lang Leav is one of my favourite poets. I loved her book "Sad Girls" a lot. Therefore, I decided to take one page from her book and use it as the background for my self-portrait. I pasted my picture on top of it. I made it looks like the page was from an old book so it looks more aesthetic.

After that, I drew things that I like as doodles around me.

While creating my self-portrait, I came up with an idea to add a little twist to my self-portrait. Even though I am always a very cheerful person, I can also be really sad at times. So, I added patches and drew me crying and sad which acts as another side of me which I do not normally show people.

After that, I added some more doodles at the other side of my face to make it looks nicer. I thought it would be nice to add "love youself" in my self-portrait as sometimes I have insecurities about myself. Therefore, it acts like a reminder that I have to love myself more.

This self-portrait represents me as a person as it shows the things that I like and also another side of me which I seldom or never show others.

REFLECTION

From this exercise, it made me realize a more things about myself as I did a self-exploration. Before this, I never really sat down and think about myself. I feel like this project really helped me to know myself better. It was also fun combining pictures and drawings together for this project. It was also the first time I combined drawings and pictures together. It was a really nice experience. Overall, I enjoyed doing this project.
