Task 3: Webtoon

Narrative

Act 1
Willy was walking home from school. All of a sudden, Adela grabbed him hand and started running. Willy was really confused, so he turned his head and saw an evil witch chasing them. Without hesitation, both of them ran as fast as they could till they reached a dead end.

Act 2
Willy had no choice but to face the evil witch head on with Adela. As they were fighting, the evil witch finally caught Adela. She did not want the witch to get her powers. So, as the witch was pulling her in, she quickly transferred all her powers to Willy. With the newly gained powers, Willy used it on the witch and successfully defeated the witch.

Act 3
After the witch vanquished, he ran to Adela and hugged her. As they were hugging, a bright light appeared from the sky, sucking Willy in. Adela revealed to him that his journey has come to an end and thanked him from saving her from the evil witch. Tears ran down her face as Willy slowly disappeared. Willy woke up on the sofa and realized that it was all just a dream. He looked at the clock and saw that it was already 1 AM. He stood up, turned off his television, and went to sleep on his bed.

Progress

Before starting to sketch my webtoon, I did some visual research.

After doing visual research, I started sketching my ideas. I used procreate to sketch my comic. I decided to go for a similar art style as my visual researches. I sketched a total of 81 panel with 15 pages.

After finishing my sketches, I proceeded to digitalize my sketches using Adobe Illustrator. I used the charcoal brush to digitalize my comic.

After digitalizing, I coloured my comic with only the colour purple as I wanted to create a monochrome type of comic.

I also added onomatopeia and sfx after getting feedback from Miss Anis to better my comic.

After I'm done finalizing my comic, I uploaded my comic and published it on Webtoon.

Task 4: Motion Comic

Upon finishing my webtoon, I used Adobe After Effects to create a motion comic. Before I started the animation process, I separated all my layers into separate files so that it would be easier for me to animate my comic.

After separating all my files, I imported them into Adobe After Effects. Then, I begin to animate my comic. I animated every page separately.

After animating all the pages separately, I compiled all of the compositions into one single composition.

FEEDBACK
  • Good flow
  • Simple drawing but nice story
  • Add onomatopeia and sfx to make it even better
  • Good pacing and timing for motion comic

REFLECTION

This was a really hard project. This project really challenged me a lot as I had to push myself to learn a lot of things. I was never good at drawing characters or movements. Therefore, I struggled quite a bit when creating my sketches. Digitalizing my comic was also not easy as I had to use Adobe Illustrator to digitalize it. I do not have a drawing tablet, so drawing with only the mouse was really hard. Other than that, animating the comic was also a very long process. I did not know how to use Adobe After Effects at all. I had to Google and search on YouTube on how to use Adobe After Effects. I really pushed myself to learn so much for this project and I am really grateful that I was able to finish it. The process was really painful but in the end, the product was really satisfying and I do love my webtoon and motion comic.
