Project 1

Instructable Poster

For this project, we were to create an infographic poster for one recipe selected from Pasta Grannies. We were to study one video, breakdown and chunk the preparation and cooking process into an instructable poster. Therefore, for this task, I chose to make an instructable poster of Rosa's Chestnut Cake.

Firstly, I watched the video and wrote down the information I got from the video such as the steps and ingredients to make a chestnut cake.

After studying the video, I started my instructable poster by doing some visual research. This is a new art style that I've always wanted to try.

After doing visual research and have a sense of what art style I would like to go for, I started sketching my instructable poster.

After sketching, I started by created the assets for my poster using Adobe Illustrator.

I started designing the layout of my poster after finishing my assets. I added texture to my assets to create a more hand drawn effect to it.

I got feedback from Mr. Hafiz and made some changed to my poster to make it better. I also realize that the instructions were a little hard to read. Therefore, I changed the font to a more readable font.

Minimal animated infographic

I began working on my animated infographic after finishing my instructable poster. Firstly, I created the scenes using Adobe Illustrator. I also separated the layers so that I could animate them when I import my Illustrator files to Adobe After Effects.

After creating all my scenes and separating the layers, I imported all my files to Adobe After Effects and began animating. I animated the assets by using bounce effect, motion blur and others.

After I am done animating, I added sound effects and background music.

After receiving feedback, I made improvements to my animated infographic. I also changed the fonts for the ingredients to a more readable font.

FEEDBACK

Instructable Poster
  • Layout is functional
  • Art style suits the kind of infographic
  • Pictures work well
  • Instructions could be bigger
  • Top right part does not work as it takes a lot of space
  • Use a different font for the body text
Animated Infographic
  • Use the same assets for different scenes, do not have to fade out
  • Font selection for Scene 2 should not be those display fonts
  • Can use the body text font use for the rest of the animation

REFLECTION

I enjoyed doing this project as I got to explore and try a different art style. This art style was completely new to me and I had to learn how to do it. The art style may look simple but its kind of hard to pull off as I never tried the art style before. Personally, I do not think I did not do a very good job in recreating the art style that I want. However, I am glad that I got to learn about the art style that I wanted to go for. I hope that in the future I can do better in creating designs of this art style.
